Hi friends, here’s a card I made for my nephew. I’ll warn you up front, it took me a while to complete this card, but I’m happy with the result and every once in a while I like to make something extra special for an extra special person. The time suck was mainly because I messed around with figuring out the pop up part of the card. I found several patterns online, but they involved using a Cricket machine which I don’t have. I needed to come up with something I could do with my ruler, pencil, and Paper Snips scissors. Once I figured the pattern out, it went together quickly and the card ended up being a lot of fun to make. I used a number of different ink colors to make the cupcakes different from one another. Just use what you have on hand and be creative in decorating them. I used a heart on one, made shiny with Crystal Effects. On the others I used Dazzling Details, red and iridescent.
I made my three cupcakes first, then while the glitter was drying, I assembled the card liner. The liner measures 5 1/4″ x 8 1/4″. It’s a bit smaller than the card so you have a small colored edge showing when done. Take a look at the template photo below. Each cupcake stand is 3/4″ wide, and they have 1/4″ space between them. Fold your liner then open it up flat again. Using the fold line, mark the mid point and center your cut lines on that mark. You want to make the center two cut lines 3/4″ long, a little longer than the ones on either side. This will allow your center cupcake to sit a little further in front of the other cupcakes. Once you have all your lines drawn, refold the liner, and cut starting from the fold along the lines only as far as you drew. Once you have all six lines drawn, you can carefully open up the liner and fold the pop outs inward. Use your bone folder to get good tight folds so that your card will lay as flat as possible. There will be many layers of paper when you’re done, so it will be a heavy card and may need extra postage.
Once your liner is taped into the card front, stamp your sentiment, attach the cupcakes, and create a festive birthday banner using cheerful papers. If your birthday child has five or fewer letters to his or her name, you could spell their name in the banner, or the number of years they are old. Lots of ways to customize and make special for the birthday child. Hope you enjoy and thanks for stopping by!
