Hey everyone, today’s card is one using an elegant reindeer stamp called Dasher. This was once sold as a stand alone stamp (set of 1), then it went bye-bye, and now it’s back as part of a grouping of stamps called “Best of Christmas”. This set of four of Stampin’ Up’s big sellers over the past 25 years includes Dasher, Santa, a manger scene with Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, and a new stamp of a Christmas ornament which works with their new ornament punch. When I saw that they resurrected Dasher, I dug him out of hibernation and made this card. I cased a card by bluejellystampin, thanks for a beautiful idea!
I made the moon and snow drift using post-it notes as masks. I punched out a circle, making sure some of the sticky was in the circle, and placed it on the white card stock where I wanted it. Then I took two post-its, and carefully tore the edge that is sticky, but not too far into the sticky because that’s how it sticks on the paper. I was going for a gentle sloping drift.
I sponged the sky by inking up my sponge very little at a time so as not to put down too much ink all at once. I just kept going over areas until it became the color I wanted. Move your sponge in a circular pattern, beginning off the paper, moving inward. A craft sheet or scratch paper is critical for this technique to preserve your work surface. I had to be careful around the edges of the post-its so they did not come up from the sponging. The final stamping step is to stamp Dasher in black where you want him. I placed his feet in the snow, and I wanted some of his antlers in the moon. My stamp is mounted on a wood block so placement was a bit of a guess and as it turned out I got all his antlers in the moon, oh well! Once all the ink was nice and dry, I had a few little areas on Dasher’s body that didn’t quite ink up all the way, so I filled those in with a black marker. Add a little glitter glue to show the drifts and it’s all done! Hope you liked this one, thanks for stopping by!
